About Liquid Mercury

No More Standing Still

You may know this blog by its previous moniker, Standing Stones.  My overall mission hasn’t changed: to help myself and others find alignment with our whole beings and the Universe.

So why change the name to Liquid Mercury?

A few reasons, actually.

At the most fundamental level, Mercury is considered a Trickster character. Recently, I’ve realized just how much influence the Trickster has over the spiritual path.  As a blog title that captures where I am right now, Liquid Mercury resonates at the deepest level.

Ironically, the blog has always unconsciously been referencing this influence as the stone cairns from which ‘Standing Stones’ took its inspiration were originally considered a type of ‘altar’ to Hermes.  Hermes being, of course, the Greek name for Mercury.

However, I’m done standing still by the side of the road, I’m ready to move.

Hence the emphasis on liquidity.  Liquids move, they flow, they represent the dynamic nature of energy in the universe.  Fluid certainly is a word that captures my experience of ‘reality’ over the last eighteen years walking the Spiritual Path.

It is also not lost on me that the element of Mercury is one of the key elements of Alchemy.  Ascension Glossary, something of a new age wikipedia, notes that, “In the ancient art of alchemy, such as in Hermeticism, Mercury, sulfur, and salt were the Earth’s three principle substances that represent the trinity in creation”

Mercury, unlike salt and sulfur, and although a metal, is liquid at room temperature.  And not just liquid, but reflective – almost like a mirror.  Like the liquid element, Mercury, the Trickster can sometimes be the medium through which we see ourselves.  The levels of meaning that can be found when we juxtapose Trickster associations with Spiritual Path associations are staggering.

The more you dig, the more you find.  It’s easy to get lost, which is, of course, just what the Trickster is counting on.  But Trickster is also there, cheering from the sidelines, when you cleverly evade a trap because you’ve learned.  Which is why I’m here.

In fact, it’s why we’re all here;

to learn.

Trickster can be found in every moment, he rules the boundary and the ‘in-between.’   Our very existence is a boundary; between past and future, between spirit and matter, between life and death, between asleep and awake.  If you work on living in the moment, you know that the ‘now’ is a perpetual in-between.

In case you can’t tell, I’ve come to a new paradigm, characterized by a tremendous resonance with this character.  As a result, I’m moving in a new direction; spinning up a private practice Liquid Mercury Spiritual Path Consulting – hopefully to launch early 2016. I’m working on a book about the Trickster and an online video series about the Spiritual Path, but the key feature of my practice will be 1-on-1 work with clients who want to actively walk their own paths and find their freedom.

I’ve been walking the Spiritual Path for eighteen years now, “I’ve” manifested my relationship, my family, every job I’ve had since college, and hundreds of other elements of my life.  I’ve seen the heights of mystical bliss and been through three dark nights of the soul.  I’m no master, but I’ve learned a lot in the process and I’m ready to bring that experience to bear helping others find their way.

Path through the blog

I realized a few months ago that a blog is really a type of ‘push’ communication in a society that is demand driven.  I’m sure there are people out there who have excellently organized blogs, maybe one day I will be one of them.  For now, though, here are some suggestions that really represent what this blog is all about;
